Spring Break in Crete

Crete, Greece is regularly voted one of the best islands to visit with kids! Crete offers crystal clear water, expansive beaches, authentic restaurants and activities for all ages. Our family spent spring break, April of 2018, in Crete.

Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands. It lies approximately 100 miles south of mainland Greece. Crete sits on the southern part of the Aegean Sea. The island is made up of mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes & gorges (let’s not forget all of those beaches) - it has a very diverse terrain. We loved our drive across the island, taking in all of the natural beauty.

Our family flew into Crete from Munich, Germany. A quick flight landed us at the Chania airport. There are 2 additional airports on the island (Heraklion and Sitia), which allows travelers more options and competitive flight prices. If traveling from the United States, you would most likely connect in Athens, before heading down to Crete. Rental cars are plentiful and reasonably priced. The road system across the island is well maintained and easy to navigate.

Crete offers a wide variety of lodging accommodations. You will find an incredible mixture of all inclusive resorts, family-centered hotels, holiday homes, organized glamping sites - the list goes on. Due to crete’s large size, there are plenty of places to choose from when booking your vacation. There are plentiful options in every price range as well. Learn more about where we stayed in this blog post.

We traveled to Crete with our then 7 and 5 year old daughters, along with my Husband’s Mother. It was important to us to find activities we would all be able to enjoy together. Crete offers endless water activities, sailing adventures, agrotourism explorations, countless hiking trails and of course incredible beaches!

Our family loved spending Spring Break in Crete. The temperatures were warm, the crowds minimal & the beaches were beautiful. We appreciated the hospitality and generosity of the locals. We enjoyed the authenticity of the island and cannot wait to return.
