Captiva Island, Florida - Where to Stay

Captiva Island is a tropical paradise in southwestern Florida. Just a short drive from Fort. Myers, Captiva Island sits offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, accessible by boat or car, crossing through Sanibel Island. It is well worth the visit, as you head only a little off the beaten path, but far enough to feel like you are far from the hustle and bustle on the mainland.

As a small child, my family vacationed on Captiva Island often. I have distinct memories of the signature soft white sand and vivid blue water, as well as jumping from sand dunes with my brothers. We always loved our time spent here.

Recalling some of my fondest childhood memories, and wanting to share this special place with Michael, Hadley and Elle, in the summer of 2015 it was time to go back! We caught a red eye from Seattle, my family came in from Virginia and Michael’s from California - it was a reunion under the Florida sun!

When booking this vacation, there was no doubt where we wanted to stay during our time on Captiva Island - it had to be South Seas Island Resort! This full service resort village, featuring modern amenities and countless activities, for the whole family. There is something for everyone - kayaking, tennis, fishing excursions, bike rentals, water sports, golf and sailing school. And did I mention seclusion? The resort, fronted by 2.5 miles of gorgeous beach also features a 330 acre nature and wildlife reserve, along with a marina.

The property is seriously expansive, so the resort offers a trolley system to help everyone move around easily. My girls loved our daily trolley rides, from one end of the resort to the other! There are nine dining options, and a full service market on the resort grounds. Everything you need is within reach.

South Seas Island Resort offers a variety of accommodation types, which was a huge draw for our large group! There are hotel style rooms offering a king or two queen beds. One bedroom villas overlook the bay or tennis courts. For more space, you can opt for a two or three bedroom condo on the beach.

Our family chose a three bedroom beach villa. The impressive unit was two floors, featuring a spacious living room, fully equipped kitchen and large balcony. Community pools are conveniently sprinkled throughout the property and we had one just outside of our unit, only a two minute walk to the private beach. It was perfect for our group.

Stand-alone vacation homes are also available, at South Seas Island Resort. Ranging from three to nine bedrooms, these homes only enhance the resort’s suitability to vacation with a larger group of family and friends. You can keep your party together under one roof, or choose separate spaces, but remain close - a huge draw for multi-generational family travel.

Situated on some of the most beautiful ocean front in Florida, South Seas Island Resort offers activities for young and old, alike. This family friendly resort truly encourages everyone to unwind. The customer service across the resort is unmatched, allowing you to feel well taken care of at every turn.

We are looking forward to our next visit to Captiva Island & South Seas Island Resort!
